The Spyderco Salt I Knife has a blade made out of a PH (precipitation hardened) steel that doesn't rust. H1 steel is naturally hard, and it will hold a sharpened cutting edge equivalent to many carbon steels. H1 has 1 percent nitrogen instead of carbon, so it cannot rust. The illustrated Salt I knife features a 3" mostly serrated modified blade made of H1 steel, 3/32" thick. The blade is hollow ground with a texture notched thumb ramp, and Spyderco hole for ambidextrous one hand opening. The opening hole is enlarged for easy opening, even with gloved or wet hands. The contoured black fiber reinforced handle, 4" closed, has checkerboard texturing, Boye Dent lock back, , and black stainless steel . The clip is mounted at the butt end, it is reversible from side to side, and it is designed to be tightened with two nickels.
