I don't have this particular model (i have the part. serrated one) but I wish I had this one. The only use I would have for the serration i to cut rope but I don't carry rope when I go hiking/camping. I don't need the serration to cut through branches or logs, I can do just fine with a fine edge. I haven't found the 'perfect' survival knife for me yet but this is awfully darn close. If you combined the Big Rock with the Fallkniven F1, that would be the closest without getting a custom made knife, which I might do. This knife is slightly heavier than competitors which I actually like because when you need to go through a branch or a log it's nice to have that extra force behind it. The only problem I have is that it is stainless steel b/c it is harder to get and keep an edge and the button latch on the sheath. Whenever you pull the knife out of the sheath it rubs against the fastener and if you're not careful it will probably cut right off eventually. Overall great knife though.

wanted/needed a fixed blade for camping , hiking , general outside use. checked out a number of different knife makers ,models ect. selected the big rock mostly because of the good reviews it got. blade lenght is what i wanted ,grip is good , full tang is great. not fond of 440A steel but for the price and the fact that it will get some hard use it should be ok. out of the box it it had to be the dullest knife i ever got from a manufacturer. took about one hour to reset the bevel and get it sharp. now it's one of the sharpest knives i have. not sure what happened there. again for the money a great buy.
