  Product Information
If we tell you that this engineering masterpiece was inspired by the bridges of Portland, Oregon—we''ve got more than our share, here—don't make the mistake of thinking that Gerber's gotten all misty-eyed and romantic. On the contrary, the Suspension has all the down-and-dirty performance characteristics a tough guy would expect.

This is a classic workhorse with spring-loaded pliers, our patented Saf.T.Plus™ component locking system, a ballistic Nylon
Nylon
Nylon Material: A heavy-duty woven nylon fabric originally developed for use in bullet proof vests and personal body armor. Offers great durability in a lightweight sheath.

, and the very same structural integrity that goes into every Gerber tool.

Oh sure, it''s a sleek looking son-of-gun. And the open-frame configuration is something of a break-though where the industry is concerned. But just because it''s got nice lines, there''s no reason you can''t use it in some pretty ugly situations. In fact, we dare ya.

I've owned a lot of knives and multi tools, and this one is among the best I've owned.

The sheath is good. But, I had the problem of it wearing out too quickly. My fix for this is that I simply used the other connecters on the back of the sheath. Now my Gerber suspension tool stays snug on my belt and I do not have to worry about loosing it! Now for the tool itself.....BEST EVER!!!!! AND WITH GERBERS LEGENDARY LIFETIME WARRANTY......YOU CANNOT GO WRONG! PRICED PERFECTLY!

nice tool, BAD sheath

Reviewer: Rusty B
The tool itself is good and I find it useful, when needed. I have had this product for less than a month and the Sheath is ripping out. I will have to purchase another one. The side is ripped down the entier back left side and the tool will fall out if I continue to use it. Overall dis-pleased with the fact that I have to purchase another $10 sheath.

I had a smaller gerber tool that had a file, but two nights ago I lost it while mudding in Switzerland Florida. so I drove up to Wal-Mart in my Jeep and picked up this tool for $28. Boy is it great, it even comes with a bit set that fits into the sheath. The bits use a magnetic "grabber" and fit on the screwdriver tip. The can opener was superb(almost bent the can of tuna!)and the blades are sharp. Now(of course)I used my diamond bar to hone the edges, but other than that this one is offf-da-heezy-fo'-sheezy. Anyway, my only suggestions are that the tool come with a hacksaw and a coarse/fine file. Suincerely, Roger Williams Montgaue IV Grand Dragon of Jeep Wrangler mafia, Florida Chapter.

I have had 3 Gerbers in 10 years. Love them. This model has a bad sheath design. It flairs out from my belt and has now been ripped off my belt.Love the tool though.

i just bought this knive a few hours ago and it feels like a very well buit tool but i was reading the reviews on it and thats when people said the pliers kept breaking so i took a look at the pliers and if you have the gerber suspension just look at the wire cutters on the pliers they set up to causing a gap in the pliers when you sqeeze the handle together this take all the pressure exsurted on the pliers and transfers it to the pivot causing the pliers to break so just take a file and file down the wire cutters so when you sqeeze the pliers together theres no gap or light showing through and resharpen your wire cutters and your good to go.

Great tool, crappy sheath!

Reviewer: TugboatBill
Ballistic sheath is a joke! I had mine for about 3 days, and the bottom had to be sewn up. Then a month goes by, and I have to replace it, as it's falling apart! The design for the belt loop is too low, so the whole tool hangs sideways much of the time. Putting the loop at the upper edge of the back would make a world of difference....I can't understand why Gerber didn't do this? The tool itself is very nice, though some of the tools are real nail breakers to get at. Over all, I like the tool, but it seems to have lost some of the quality of the old Gerber I have had for over 10 years! I'd recommend it, but you'll be buying another sheath soon after.

Ihave only owned this toll for about three weeks, and I don't care for it. The very first week, the belt loop on the pouch ripped and I allmost lost the tool. Then two weeks later I was pulling on a metal cap on the end of a cardboard tube and I gave it a twist to compress the light weight metal and one side of the plier jaw broke off at the pivot, rendering it useless.

great multi tool

Reviewer: Steve S.
I am very happy with my Gerber Suspension. I carry it in my pocket so I don't use the sheath. I've used most of the tools aside from the can opener. I use the pliers mostly to remove nails and screws from truck tires. They have incredible grip for pocket pliers. The spring open is a nice feature for the pliers. I was suprised at how well the phillips screwdriver works on both small and larger screws. All the tools fold out easily and I love the locking feature. I use the scissors quite often and am very suprised at how well they work. Overall great product for the price.

At first the tool was tight, after repeated use (and broken finger nails), it started to loosen up. The sheath broke and gerber sent a new one - which broke. Cheap sheaths. Need a leather one for such a heavy tool.

I really like the tool as far as multi tools go. The blades stay sharp, and it has plenty of useful tools. But like so many other peoples, my pliers broke. Putting together a grill. Its great so long as you dont put much pressure on pliers.

the tabs on the blades and the lock releases has torn my sheath all up in less than a month and unhappy to spend $10 for the same thing, wished they had leather ones.

Suspension

Reviewer: Nichols
A lot of tool for the money but the blades are a bit small. Over all, it is a heavy tool. The bit holder fits on the cross-point blade loosely, but the magnet holds it together. The bit holder wobbles and does not give a lot of security. Well made and worth much more than twice the price of the cheapo Walmart knockoffs. However, in a real survival situation, I would want one of the bigger models.

Reviewer: Troy B.
These are not the types of responces you want to receive, but are neccessary for quality control. I received the Gerber as a gift. The tool was great for the first few weeks, but then it began to show signs of wear. For instance, the main blade began to bend back futher than it should, the grip knob broke off, and after 3 mounths the only knife blade I could pull out was the surated, and it broke off using very little pressure. All in all I would not purchase another for my self or as a gift.

Great took, crummy sheath!!

Tool looks, works great, sheath is the pits, realize the sheath will not outlive the tool, but a month is not reasonable. Offer additional sheaths, or easily purchased ones.

Reviewer: intl
I love the weight and style of this model. But... sheath is gone. bit holder is gone. After 6 months of use, I still have a hard time getting tools open and shut. Won't even consider buying replacement sheath or bit holder. I'll get a more useful model.

Great compact multi-tool

Reviewer: Spidey69
I strapped this model to my pfd for a kayaking support tool. It works great. The sheath ripped out in a week and the tool is a bit heavy for its size, but those are the only drawbacks. For a GREAT tool pick up an Urban Legend series, I carry it daily. I broke the pliers and knife blade off 6 months ago and sent it back to Rocky and they didnt fix it, they just sent me a brand new one. Way cool customer service!

I've owned several different gerber products and so far they have all lived up to the gerber name, but what's up with the sheath. Fire the designer or the purchasing agent who bought from the horrible supplier. "IT'S CRAP"

The tool has a good feel, but the tools themself are useless. The phillips screwdriver is terrible. I cannot even get it to do anything. The flat tip is too fat to use on screws. There is a smaller flat tip but you can only use it on small screws. I have been using the multi tools that gerber makes in my 15 year career and I love your product, but this one should have had some better tools.

My review

Reviewer: Anonymous
This multitool was a great replacement for an older model Gerber I lost. The one I purchased also had the added bit adapter and set. This has come in handy on more than one occasion. The spring-loaded needle-nose pliers are a real bonus, making one-hand use more of a reality. The tool by itself rates a 5 but the bit set drops it to a 4 in my opinion. While it is a very handy piece, it is often clumsy to use and there is the fear of losing the adapter and a bit when it falls off during use.

Stiff tool...

Had it a week, has everything I need except like alot of others say "the thing is way way to tight" I had to pry the saw out using a small screw driver that promptly bent while doing this. Also thing is heavier than I expected, instructions on where the bits mount woulda been nice.

First and best multi-tool owned. clean carpets for living, it has all the tools I need to get the job done, only withdraw pliers don't open far enough to unscrew garden hoses from faucets.Love that the knife can be opened and closed with one hand. Leatherman din't have that option, plus that it wasn't lockable for the price I payed for this model. Like that its comfortable to hold. love it , love it

I work as a maintenace tech. at a world class steel mill. My wife bought me the first I loved it, til I really needed it then the needle nose broke one side off trying to bend a small "S" shaped chain hook. Later my 11 year old daughter bought me a new one, and guess what? At work I pulled it out to turn a small stem on a 1/4" air valve and this one broke. My fellow associate pulled out his Leatherman and laughed saying get a real tool. My daughter said she was sorry, but guess what it wasn't her fault. I think Gerber needs to check the tool steel closer.

It's hard to find the one tool that works for everything in the IT (information technology) field, but this one comes pretty close. The saw for cutting out boxes for network jacks in drywall, the screwdrivers, the knives...everything is there where it need it, when I need it.

This tool is not like the Gerber's of the past. The pliers snapped right at the shaft with hardly no pressure at all, applied. Very disappointing given I was out in the field and really needed them to do the job.

I have used this for 1 1/2 years now. I am on my second sheath the strap broke on my first one. Now the Velcro is wearing out on this one. Also the tool will not go into the sheath with out being “wiggled” in. The can opener is left handed so is kind of backwards. Other than that it has performed up to the excellent standards I expect from Gerber. Fix the sheath and you would have a world class tool. Maybe leather with a snap.

Great except for sheath

Reviewer: Multi-plier Suspension w/Sheath
Use it all the time. Blades, scissors, pliers, the whole tool, with great results. The sheath tore apart, however, and without it I don't take it to work. I work in an office, and the dress pants required have pockets that wear out too fast to carry it. Need a leather sheath!

great for the money

I just got this tool a few weeks ago and love it. A few things could be different, a snap on the sheath, a stronger phillips driver. Everything else is great. One hand will open the knife blades easily.

Sheath Problems
01/23/2010
Reviewer: Gerber Multi-Plier Suspension w/sheath #1890
The tool itself is excellently crafted, easy to use and the locking feature when items are deployed is great! However, I rate the sheath as a minus 5 because the tool fits so tightly in it that it is very difficult to easily remove the tool from the sheath when you have it fastened to your belt. Being a maintenance person that uses tools like this frequently everyday, I would probably choose another sheath for this tool if there was another available. If there is, Please let me know.
