CRAP

I'll start off with the positive, singular. It does an absolutely mediocre job at knocking the burr off my serated section. However, for straight blades this thing is terrible. For the longest time I thought I was using it incorrectly, my pull through kitchen sharpener works better than this thing. It says in the description that it's great for fish hooks, only if you want to torture your fish. Do not buy this for a multi-use sharpener.

Get about 10 good uses

If you need your knives really sharp this sharpener will give you about ten or so uses and then flakes out.

Not the original Gerber Diamond Steel

Reviewer: Slug-Gunner
I agree with others, this product is NO GOOD. I've used the 'original' Gerber steel for over 10 years and it was EXCELLENT (lifetime warranty). This is a cheap Chinese 'knock-off' which is CRAP. Don't buy it.

Fell apart

I got this product to have as an extra. I have a Gerber similar to this that is great, but this model is so poorly built you are more likely to reck an edge than to finr tune it. It had big mounds of diamond sticking out all over. and the diamond fell of the third time I tryed to use it.

A tool, not for use on knives!

Reviewer: Mark S. Man
For sharpening knives use a knife sharpener, this product is not one, plain and simple! I thought this would be handy to have in the field for touch-ups, I was wrong. It is too short, about 3" of coarse grit. The remainder of the rod (3") is smooth steel and there is a significant lip from the smooth rod to the course "sharpening" grit that can damage your knife's edge if you happen to hit it. This product will not sharpen your knife! I don't believe this is made by Gerber, it is not marked "Gerber" anywhere on the product and since I purchased it I've seen it in stores packaged under various names.
Gerber makes some fine products but this is not one of them. Save your money.
